HOW DO I CREATE THE TERRACOTTA LOOK?

Gather your materials. Make sure you have everything you need. I also recommend you use a plastic or cloth to cover the surface you will be working on. This will make cleaning easier and should you accidentally spill paint, you won’t have to worry.

Create textured paint. Add baking soda to your paint to create a nice grainy texture. The amount of paint and baking soda you combine will vary depending on the amount you choose to ix. I suggest using a ratio of 1:1. For example, 1/4 cup paint to 1/4 cup baking soda.

Paint your pumpkin. Add your first coat of textured paint to your pumpkin and let dry for at least 45 minutes to an hour. Once your pumpkin is completely dry, add second coat of textured paint. Tip: I personally prefer using a sponge brush to avoid streak lines left behind by a regular paint brush.

Terracotta Look Finish. While paint is still damped, sprinkle baking soda onto the top of your pumpkin. With a dry brush, begin brushing off the white baking soda. Make sure to get into your pumpkin’s crease lines and remove excess to get a more natural terra cotta look. Let Dry completely.
